Creating a Curled Photo in Photoshop

by Emir Plicanic | Views: 811 | Get Video CD

In this tutorial you will learn how to create curled photograph with  shadow. The effect could be used as a design element in your next web or print design project.

You will learn how to:

Create new document

Start a new document using Ctrl-N or File->New from the file menu. 5x5 inches at 300 dpi should give you more than enough space to work on this.

Create a new layer and add a photo you want to work on to it.

Add border to the image

Make a selection by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on the layer containing your image.

With photograph selected add a new layer and move it below the image layer.

Go to Select->Modify and choose Expand...

Add 10 pixels to the selection and click OK.

Select white as your foreground color and using Paint Bucket Tool fill the selection with white.
Press Ctrl-D to deselect.

Modify perspective of the image

In the layer palette right click the layer with the photo and select Merge Down.

Make sure the new merged layer is selected and go to Filter->Distort and select Shear.

In the Shear filter window make sure Wrap Around is selected. Click on the line to add adjustment point in the middle and move it slightly to the right.

Click OK.

Create/add shadow

Make a selection of the layer by clicking on it in the layers palette while holding the Ctrl key.

Add new layer and move it below the selected layer. Select a dark gray as your foreground color and fill the selection.

Click on the new layer in the layer’s palette and go to Edit->Transform and choose Flip Horizontal.

Select Move tool and using arrow keys move the layer slightly to the right and down.

Go to Filter->Blur and choose Gaussian Blur to soften the edges of the shadow. Try using radius of 4px.

You are done!
